Welcome to ADF.

We enhance daily living for those with memory impairment and/or motion impairment. We desire those we work with to know they are important, and they matter. Through one on one or small group engagements, we strive to promote feelings “I can do this” along with friendships through socialization with others. The time ADF spends with participants seeks to enhance and inform us both onward in the journey.

Who is ADF?

Everyone needs a friend. By understanding who one has been and presently is, we share and learning about each other to build connection. Our time together includes simple conversation along with planned programs. The disease forces us to adjust as needed in the moment. Our time with you might be a push but a validation. We learn from you and engage with you in whatever means you select. We serve families, home care providers and care facilities.

Explore our engagement opportunities one-on-one, in small groups of friends, through home care services or through care facilities.

Harmony Through Creativity

Creativity Through Harmony

Art and music, the proven combination, join to stimulate and relax. Through repetitive practice, simple instruction and watercolor media investigation one achieves success. Music compliments and evokes past memory and drives the brain methodically based on the music used. ADF pays close attention to the music selection and those participating to ensure placid connection. The engagement exists as a one-time event or in several week segments.

Meet and Remember

Meet and Remember

This engagement meets and remembers favorite times from the prime of one’s life. It combines the Memory Café model with Montessori exploration elements to provide memory connection. Themes relate to the time of year, season and life span of typical attendees. The goal remains to spark a memory and have fun. We dance, sing, engage in cognitive exercises, write, converse and enjoy theme refreshments.
These engagements occur through home care groups or care communities.

Praise and Purpose

Praise and Purpose

The program began as a mid-week service for those with memory and / or motion impairment. Although with interest it could be reinstated locally, it’s moved into church groups in the area as a means of support and information and ultimately activity intergenerationally to stay connected to one’s church community.

Passionate Service

Since everyone at ADF has experienced dementia in family, we serve with experience and solid background. Different backgrounds comprise who we are. We’ve retired nurses, OT and teachers. The founder holds a BFA in design from VCU and graduate work from Regent University in Psychology. She has spoken about space and program combinations both nationally for CHD and in North Carolina and Virginia. She has also hosted Memory Cafes and developed Art Museum programs in Norfolk and Hampton Roads, Virginia based on the MOCA model from New York. She, as several in our group, are trained, certified and/ or licensed in care programs including Eden, Montessori, Positive Care and Green Dementia (shinrin-yoko). Working together with you could be the goal to making a difference for your loved one or those you serve.
